Careca was born in Araraquara, Brazil on 5th October 1960. He was a great striker, scoring a total of 206 goals in a 377 appearances of his senior career as a footballer. His birth name was Antonio de Oliveira Filho, but he is simply known as Careca (portuguese for "bald"). He started his senior career in 1976 playing for Guarani until 1982; he made 63 appearances for his team, scoring 38 goals in total.

As he moved on, he joined the Sao Paulo team in 1983.  Careca played for them for 4 years until 1987; making 67 appearances and scoring 54 goals. His stats were really impressive. His next club was Napoli and that was his first "european" step. He joined the italian team in 1987 and played in Serie A until 1993, scoring 73 goals in 164 appearances for his team.

Careca also enjoyed some really great moments playing for the Brazilian National Team. He played for Brazil from 1982 to 1993, making a total of 60 appearances and scoring 29 goals. He didn't take part in the national team for the 1982 World Cup due to injury, but he was one of the brazilian key-players in the 1986 world cup (where Brazil was eliminated at the quarter-finals stage).

He entered the World Cup scene in 1986 when he played in the Brazil team which came all the way to the quarter finals. He had already missed the previous World Cup; and he showed his determination as a player in that tournament. Even though Brazil didn't lift the trophy, Careca was ranked second for the top scorer of the tournament as he scored five goals in that tournament.
