Andreas Brehme

Andreas Brehme is well known for placing the goal on a penalty kick against Argentina in the 1990 FIFA World Cup which won the cup to Germany. He started playing soccer as early as when he was five. He was born on 9th November 1960 in Hamburg, West Germany and he was trained at the HSV Bambek-Uhlenhorst from 1965 to 1978.

He well played in the Left-back, Left-wingback and Left midfielder positions. He is one of the well known players for taking free kicks, especially penalties. He has played for HSV Bambek-Uhlenhorst from 1978 to 1980, making 66 appearances in which he placed a total of 10 goals; played for 1. FC Saarbrucken from 1980 to 1981, made 36 appearances and scored 3 goals; played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern, made 154 appearances and placed 34 goals during 1981-1986; played for Bayern Munich from 1986 to 1988, made 59 appearances and placed 7 goals; made 24 appearances for Internazionale during 1988 – 1992 and placed 11 goals; played for Zaragoza during 1992 – 1993, made 24 appearances and placed 1 goal; played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern again from 1993 to 1998, scoring 9 goals in 120 appearances.  Andreas Brehme had won the Serie A Footballer of the Year in 1989. He has been coaching for the 1. FC Kaiserslautern during 2000 -2002, he coached SpVgg Unterhaching during 2004 – 2005 and coached the VfB Stuttgart during 2005 – 2006 as an assistant coach.

His international career started in 1980 when he played for West Germany U-21 National Team until 1981. He had played for the West Germany Olympic team during 1981 – 1984. He played for the 1990 FIFA World Cup Winning team as he played for Germany internationally from 1984 to 1994. He has placed a total of 10 international goals of which 8 were for the German National Team. Andreas Brehme is one of the footballers that will be remembered by the football fans, especially the Germans.
