Daniel Passarella was born in Chacabuco, Argentina on 25th May 1953. Most of his career as footballer, he played in the Centre back and Sweeper positions and of course he was the Captain of Argentina in 1978 World Cup, driving his team into glory.

He started his career with the club Sarmiento in 1971 when he played 36 games and scored 9 goals. in 1974 he joined River Plate and played 226 games for the big argentinian team, scoring 90 goals. In 1982 he tried to make the "european" step, by joining Florentina. He managed to play in 109 matches and to score 26 goals. in 1986 he joined another italian team, the Internazionale and two years later he returned to River Plate in order to finish his career. Despite being a defender, he had a great scoring ability.

Apart from the great success in World Cup 1978, Passarella also took in World Cup 1982 and in the qualifying round of 1986 World Cup, giving the assist to Gareca, who scored in the last match against Peru. That goal helped Argentina qualify for the final round of the World Cup tournament. But, due to coloenteritis, he missed the tournament.

This great player has been named by Pele as one of the 125 greatest living footballers in 2004. The highlight of his career was the fact that he captained the World Cup winning team in 1978, being the first argentinian player to ever lift the trophy. Passarella
is regarded as the best defender of football history in South America.
