2014 Brazil World Cup Mascot

Written by Sebastien on 13 November 2012. Posted in 2014 Brazil World Cup

Three months ago, FIFA and former Brazil striker Ronaldo  unveiled the mascot of World Cup 2014, which is an armadillo! Armadillo is a small to medium-sized mammal with a leathery armor shell that is primarily found in South and Central America. Many species are endangered.

We can find Brazilian flag's colours into armadillo head, as it has green eyes, yellow face and a blue shell. According to Ronaldo, "The mascot will play a key ambassadorial role in the next two years".

According to FIFA Secretary General: "One of the key objectives through the 2014 World Cup is to use the event as a platform to communicate the importance of the environment and ecology. We are glad to be able to do so with the help of a mascot who I'm sure will be much-loved, not only in Brazil, but all over the world."

The name that is given to the mascot is "Fuleco". "Zuzeco" and "Amijubi" were the other two options, but these names were not selected by the nearly 2 million people who voted online, at last.

The naming of the mascot came on the same day that FIFA unveiled the posters to be used to publicise the tournament. Each of the 12 host cities has its own poster.
